Little Larva

For my senior thesis, I created Little Larva, a subscription box that introduces 5-9 year old girls to the world of insects through fun activities. Observing insects is the perfect way to get girls to confidently build up their scientific skills with Little Larva's monthly package of insect information booklets, arts and crafts projects, hands-on activities and outside engagement.
Inspired by ant tunnels in the dirt, the logo for Little Larva uses custom-made bubbly letters that connect in a legible manner. The joyful color palette and quirky fonts are feminine and child-like in nature. Illustrated insects used throughout the project create an approachable first look into the world of insects while also speaking to the target audience by creating sticker-like illustrations.
The first package received from the subscription includes an item pamphlet explorer's hat, an observation journal, butterfly net, and bug catching supplies. All of these items help prepare for later on involvement with insects.
The next packages come monthly and are focused around one specific insect. The first one received and pictured above features butterflies. Included is an items pamphlet, an activity workbook, activity instructions, a poster and a sticker. Once the project has been completed and it is time to move on to the next insect, the tube can be filled with sticks and leaves to create a bug hotel. The more activities completed, the more tubes you can stack to make a bigger hotel.
